A Weekend of Discovery, A Lifetime of Love

Worldwide Marriage Encounter is the largest pro-marriage movement in the world, offering a weekend experience for couples who want to make their good marriage even better. Its mission is to proclaim the value of Marriage and Holy Orders in the Church and in the world.

Who is it for? It’s for anybody who believes that marriage is our most important relationship. It is for anybody who knows there’s always more to learn about each other, and that it’s the weekends away that spice things up at home. Most of all, Marriage Encounter is for anyone who believes they made the right choice on their wedding day and every day after.  Couples who have been married a few years attend Marriage Encounter weekends along with couples that have been married a few decades – there’s no age limit on a great marriage!

This site is dedicated to the promotion and continuation of the WWME movement in the Catholic Diocese of Paranaque. To go to the main website of WWME Philippines, click on this link: https://wwme-phils.com

1. WHAT IS MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER?

Marriage Encounter is designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together . . . a time to share their feelings, their hopes, disappointments, joys, and frustrations, and to do so openly and honestly in a face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter with the one person they have chosen to live with for the rest of their life. The emphasis of Marriage Encounter is on communication between husband and wife, who spend a weekend together away from the distractions and the tensions of everyday life, to concentrate on each other. It’s not a retreat nor a marriage clinic. It’s a unique approach aimed at revitalizing Christian Marriage. This is a time for the husband and wife to be alone together, to rediscover each other, and together focus on their relationship for an entire weekend. Every marriage deserves that kind of attention.

2. WHAT HAPPENS AT A WWME WEEKEND?

A series of presentations is given by a team of Catholic couples and a Catholic Priest. Each presentation allows you and your spouse a rare opportunity to look at yourselves as individuals, then to look at your marriage and your relationship with one another, and finally to look at your relationship with God, the Church, and the world. The weekend starts at 8:00 PM on Friday night and runs until about 4:30 PM on Sunday afternoon.

3. DO YOU HAVE TO BE CATHOLIC?

The weekend is Catholic in orientation and is expressed in the tradition and understanding of the Catholic Church. It is open to all, and so a certain number of spaces are reserved each weekend for couples of other faiths.

4. DOES THE WEEKEND RESPECT THE COUPLE’S PRIVACY?

YES! The weekend is oriented strictly towards each individual couple. You concentrate on your spouse to such an extent that you are hardly aware of the other couples present. The presentations are given to the group as a whole. After each presentation, the husband and wife have time in the privacy of their room for their own personal discussion.

5. WHEN AND WHERE ARE WEEKENDS?

Marriage Encounter Weekends by the Diocese of Paranaque are usually held at partner retreat houses in Tagaytay. Before the COVID-19 pandemic that we are currently facing, WWME-DOP would usually have a Weekend schedule every other month. We will certainly resume as soon as the health crisis is over.

6. HOW MUCH DOES A MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND COST?

WWME has committed to never let financial limitations prevent anyone from experiencing the weekend. Although there is an actual cost (the exact amount of which depends on where a couple takes the weekend), it is up to the couple to determine the amount they are willing to donate. We are grateful for any contribution that comes from the generosity of your hearts.

WWME Weekend Schedules

Before COVID-19, WWME-DOP would usually have a Weekend schedule every other month. But due to the call for social distancing at this time, all Weekends have been postponed momentarily. We will update this section once the pandemic is over. Thank you for your patience.

We are practicing social distancing at the moment 🙂

What Couples Are Saying

NOY & RONA

“Our weekend gave us an opportunity to reflect on ourselves to better understand our relationship. As husband and wife, it improved our communication through proper dialogues with sincere affirmations.”

DADO & CORY

“We experienced this Weekend many years ago but the importance of keeping our spousal relationship a priority, the communication skills, learning to appreciate the graces gifted to us by the Sacrament of Matrimony, have helped us keep our spousal relationship on an even keel.”

ROLLY & JOYCE

“Attending the Weekend was our gift to ourselves, and ultimately, to our family. It was a game changer, an eye opener. It has taught us priceless pointers on how to communicate – we now express our feelings and listen to each other like never before.”

LOWELL & LUDY

“Our weekend in April 1990 was an eye opener leading us to treasure even life-changing challenges. We learned the value of our relationship as top priority, how to look closely at each others’ needs and feelings, and how to communicate on the areas that we find most difficult to talk about.”

DENNIS & KATHY

“Since experiencing the Weekend last July 2017, our married life has been renewed and improved. It taught us the tools that we need to stay focused and to keep our relationship a priority. Truly, this Weekend has blessed us in so many ways.”

ENJIE & EDNA

“We were happily married for 12 years when we experienced our first Weekend. In those 44 hours, we discovered that we can grow a good marriage into an awesome marriage. Now 46 years married, we have yet to arrive. But each big and small decision to love each other brings us closer to our goal, that is, to be a sacrament of Christ’s love for the church.”

We are staying safe by staying in, but we must not stop learning. Browse life-giving articles below to keep nourishing our marriage and family.
